The VOX gain is now at 45%, and voice activation is smooth and responsive. With compression at 1, a little higher ALC action. With gain at 40% and no compression, it drives the ALC meter easily to 50% of scale. I mostly contest, so I have the treble set at +5, and bass at -4 to punch through the QRM. Still getting stellar audio reports.crisp and clear.
I also had problems properly adjusting the VOX gain.almost all the way up, and still couldn't get a smooth activation from receive to transmit when normally speaking.Įnter the ICM, with the electret condenser Heil iC element. But with compression off, it barely moved the ALC meter, even with gain at 100%. With mic gain at 70% and compression at 2 on the 7300, the PR-781 was OK.
I received good audio reports with both radios, but found that a dynamic element mic just doesn't provide enough gain to properly drive the 7300. I bought this mic to replace a PR-781, which I used with the IC-7300 and (now sold) IC-7600. and want to get the most out of them you need a pre-amp / and or Mixer to gain the benefit otherwise not worth it in my opinion. had to crank up gain & compression to drive ALC. tested dynamic MICS directly through the front end. Would definitely do this purchase over again. One distant operator recorded our QSO and sent it to me. Local operators also commented on the "broadcast" quality sound I was achieving. I was originally hesitant on moving away from the stock mic because of its great audio sound but after 3 months of research, testing and deliberation, I concluded that the HEil ICm was the best bang for the buck and fit for me.Īfter installation, I immediately received exceptional reports from all contacts made. I also purchased the Heil-FS3 PTT footswitch and a knockoff desk boom stand. The Heil ICm matches superbly and is specifically designed for ICom radios and drives the radio very well. Finally pulled the trigger on a desk mic for the ICom 7300.
